If there’s one pistol that I’ve had my eye on for some time, it’s the G&G GTP-9 airsoft pistol.  I know a lot of fellow Airsoft enthusiasts have been eager to get their hands on this, and it’s easy to find reviews on it because of its popularity.  Well, I’m happy to say that I finally got to put this pistol to the test, and I couldn’t wait to share my thoughts on it with you guys.

The Externals

Despite being polymer, the pistol feels extraordinarily durable, perhaps even more than a lot of the metal options that I’ve tried.  Something about it feels steady and secure in my hand, and it’s quite obvious from the feel that it’s been built extremely well.  Of course, G&G has a reputation for their excellent construction, so you shouldn’t be too surprised by that.  Also, bear in mind that plastic can be more resilient than metal when it comes to Airsoft guns, despite a lot of people assuming otherwise. 

Another thing to keep in mind is that unlike a lot of Airsoft guns that are really popular right now, the GTP-9 is not based on an actual pistol.  But, that doesn’t take away from its highly realistic nature which definitely gives you the feeling that you want when you’re out on the field.

Also, trhe GTP-9 can be taken apart for cleaning and maintenance, which is another nice feature.  And, you can conveniently adjust the hop-up without having to take the pistol apart.

The Internals

Now, let’s get into the internals.  This may not be the most high-tech Airsoft gun out there, but it definitely gets the job done.  It’s a 320fps gun, and this alone makes it a highly covetable pistol.  It uses green gas, and boasts a whirl cylinder valve to stop freeze buildup.

Grip and Trigger

One thing I noticed right off the bat is the ergonomic grip that this pistol offers.  As you probably know as an Airsoft enthusiast yourself, a lot of companies brag about their ergonomic grips but end up falling short.  This one really feels secure in my hand, which I have to say makes a big difference when you’re in the middle of a game.

As for the trigger, it’s a single action with a safety mechanism.  One thing that became quickly apparent is that you need to get the feeling of the trigger right as it’s fairly easy to accidentally activate the safety feature.  Basically, the trigger can get a little stuck if you’re not being firm enough.  However, it does feel extremely smooth once you get the hang of it, which doesn’t take long at all.

Mag

The GTP-9 has a mag capacity of 23 rounds, which was totally fine in my experience.  It’s a metal mag in the dropout style, which is fairly standard for this type of gun.  The pistol utilizes 6mm plastic BBs.  

Performance

Now, let’s get to the fun part.  The first thing I noticed about the GTP-9 is its incredible accuracy.  This word gets thrown around a lot, because of course all Airsoft guns are designed to be as accurate as possible, but this one is exceptional in that arena.  I found that I was able to hit my target from a greater distance than most pistols will allow, and that fact alone makes me feel that this gun is a great addition to any Airsoft enthusiast’s collection. 

The blowback is also everything you want from a pistol, which helped make the game more dynamic overall.  The pistol has a lot of features that are supposed to make it more gas-efficient, and while I didn’t use it for a long enough time to really grasp the scale of these features, I can say that it seems as though you can get a lot more play out of this pistol than others of a similar nature.

Another thing that I have to add is that the lightweight nature of the pistol definitely made things a lot easier.  I feel like it actually helped with the accuracy since I was able to position it better in my hand.  The grip helps as well, of course, because we all know that many pistols out there will cause cramping if they are handled for too long, and that’s the last thing you want when you’re in the middle of a game with your friends.

My Final Thoughts

It was a pleasure to play around with the GTP-9 from G&G, and having been a fan of the brand for a while now, I can’t say I was surprised to find its performance, construction and features completely up to my standards.  Based on the review above, it’s clear that this is a pistol I highly recommend.  All around, it’s a truly great option, and it comes from one of the most reputable brands in the game.
