If you’ve heard about the G&G SSG-1 Speedsoft, you probably have a very strong opinion about it one way or another.  Rarely do we encounter a gun that can be classified as controversial, but that’s what this particular model seems to be known for.  As you may already know, this is perhaps the first gun made specially for Speed-soft, which is a new style of Airsoft in which the goal is to take out as many opponents as possible as quickly as possible.  Speed-soft as a game has largely divided the Airsoft community, and so it would only be natural that G&G’s first dedicated Speed-soft gun would do the same.

However, we do believe that people have unfairly judged the gun prior to trying it.  Today, we’ll talk about our experience with it, as you’ll see there might be more to this gun than meets the eye.

The Exterior

Yes, the SSG-1 is a Speed-soft gun, but it’s also, at the end of the day, a thoughtfully designed AEG.  The first thing that you’ll notice, without a doubt, is that it doesn’t look and feel like a real gun, and it’s not made to.  It does feel lightweight in the hands, and those who want a heavier gun may see this as a drawback.  But Speed-soft is all about, well, speed, and so the lightweight construction makes perfect sense, and isn’t a sign of the level of quality, but was a very conscious choice.

One thing that people like about this gun is its drop stock, which is surprisingly sturdy, and conveniently adjustable.  Being able to adjust its angle allows you to handle it closer to your body for more control, which we have to say is pretty cool.  It’s also got picatinny rails in ideal locations, which is a nice touch.

The Internals

First, bear in mind that the SSG-1 does have a mosfet, and its internals are not that far off from what we’ve come to expect from G&G in general.  The gun also features an electric trigger.

The Grip and Trigger

The trigger of the SSG-1 has gotten a lot of folks talking, mainly because of the way in which one can draw comparisons to those found on paintball guns.  This largely comes from the fact that it’s an elongated trigger, with an equally elongated trigger guard.  The feature is designed to improve firing speed, which is what Speed-soft is all about.  As for the grip, we’ve got no complaints.

The Magazine

The gun comes with a 105rd mid-cap mag.

The Performance

For this gun, it’s all about full auto, which makes sense considering how it’s made for Speed-soft.  Without a doubt, it’s one of the fastest-shooting guns we’ve ever had the pleasure of using.  Considering this is one of its main selling points, we’re pleased to say that it does live up to the hype in that regard.

Further, the accuracy is quite good.  It gets the job done when it comes to shooting your target.  And, the lightweight nature of the gun really does add to the ease of use, so we can understand why G&G made the construction-related decisions that they did.

Perfect for Airsoft Enthusiasts that Want an Awesome Speed-soft Gun

Look – if you’re going to go after the G&G SSG-1, then you know what you’re doing.  It’s clearly a specialized model that’s not for every Airsoft player, and it’s not intended to be.  This is a Speed-soft gun, and that factor is even in the name, so if you choose to pick it up, know what it’s ultimately designed for, and therefore what it’s capable of, and you’ll likely be happy with your decision.
